Hey beloved!

I’m so grateful to share the first issue of 🌿 Rooted & Rising with you! I created this newsletter for faith-based professionals on the rise who aren’t afraid of a little vulnerability in their inbox if it’s going to support their spiritual growth.

Every week, I’ll be sharing insights I’m learning as founder, content creator & faith-led woman as well as actionable steps I took (and you can take!) to overcome any hurdles that came my way.

If you’re open to Biblical lessons, weekly reflections, encouragement, and practical resources (like bussin’ playlists, strategies & upcoming events) then this is the newsletter for you!

This week’s themes:

  • Obedience over perfection

  • Creating with God, not alone

  • Showing up with confidence

But first…

🥭 A Spiritual Snack🥭

“Blessed are those who trust in the LORD and have made the LORD their hope & confidence.”

Jeremiah 17:7 (NLT)

Ever sit down to create content and immediately feel that familiar knot in your stomach?

You know what I’m talking about.

You start to question everything. You wonder if you’ve planned enough. You start doubting that you’re even the right voice in the space for this and if anyone will listen. Then you inevitably close your laptop or move on to another task and promise yourself you’ll “figure it out tomorrow.”

I was there at this time last week, when I realized that I was being called back to YouTube but didn’t know where to start. I felt insecure that I was capable of making something that I would feel good about sharing.

Thankfully, I was able to overcome and put out a video I’m really proud of- but how did I finally get to the place of getting out of my own way & going for it? I realized these 3 things…

Let’s Break It Down: Practical Strategies 🤏🏾

1. Obedience beats optimization every. single. time.

I spent weeks trying to "perfect" my content strategy (while hiding behind client work), when God kept saying "just start." There's an audience out there that needs your authentic voice more than your polished, overly-planned "brand." When I finally surrendered to God's plan over my own, the results rolled in.

Early last week, I felt led to organize my Notion workspace. I'd been putting it off for weeks, but in this newly surrendered space, I moved based on what He said, not what I felt like would work. The results? A freshly renovated Notion workspace (which looks adorbs, btw) and two unplanned but strategic posts about the joy of cleaning your digital space plus a call to work with me that reached over 12k impressions.

Try this: Set a timer for 15 minutes. Write what's on your heart, minimal editing, then post. This is a great practice for showing up before you feel ready & getting out of your head! Bonus: Start from a place of surrender and seek God for His direction.

2. You're not creating alone

I had multiple times last week where I felt overwhelmed by the sheer volume of things I had to do. It wasn't until I took a much needed step back, read my Bible & said a quick prayer did I realize that I am not doing this alone.

But the moment it really hit me? On my way home from a Creator Economy NYC event, I listened to "The Insecure Me," an episode of The Leader's Cut with Preston Morrison where he summed up the exact feeling I experienced that night - that when our attention is too much on ourselves and we feel like we have to do everything alone, we bust the doors wide open for insecurity.

God doesn't want us creating in a vacuum—He wants to be part of the process. The sooner we plug into that, the sooner we take the burden off our own shoulders and release that insecurity.

Try this: Start your day with prayer and Bible study instead of having to draw for it when you get overwhelmed. At the end of your session, ask Holy Spirit to guide you to which 3 things you need to focus on that day (and lock into those 3 things). You'll feel relief and clarity knowing these are His top 3!

3. How you show up gives others permission to see you that way

How you describe yourself to others gives them the exact wording to describe you when you're not in the room. If you say you're not sure & you're a novice—that's how they'll report back on you.

Case in point: Last week, imposter syndrome hit hard at a Creator Economy NYC event. Brett kindly asked me to capture some story content for the night and by the end I was exhausted from overthinking it. I was constantly re-taking things, asking Domunique for advice (s/o to her for being patient with me!), and second-guessing whether I was the right person to capture key moments.

Even though I was surrounded by the sweetest, most understanding people, I couldn't help but think: would I have trusted me with another project with how unsure I seemed? How much more fun would that have been if I approached it with curiosity and confidence instead of doubt and trepidation? Some might say this is a harsh assessment for some temporary stories, but asking these tough questions is what sparks growth.

Yesssss, we had grace with ourselves, but those questions definitely sparked how I'll be showing up next time around!

Try this: Describe yourself the way you'd like to be remembered. Whatever the things are that you'd love to be said of you, say it about yourself in private & in public.

Your Monday Move: 🤸🏾‍♀️

If you’re starting this week feeling behind on content or unclear about your message, here’s your sign to start from where you are. Share what you’re learning. Trust your imperfect authenticity is exactly what someone needs to hear.

This week’s challenge: Pick ONE platform. Share ONE real thought. Don’t edit it to death and see what happens when you show up as you, not who you think you should be. (Also tag me! I wanna see and cheer you on!! 🎉)

Reminder: There is someone out there who is waiting on YOUR voice. Not because it’s perfect or polished, but because it’s you!
